Metra Learning is proud to bring you the Companion Reading and Structured Tutoring family of products. These programs are based on a proven-effective instructional model developed and researched by Dr. Grant Von Harrison. These powerful reading programs will help you teach your students to read – regardless of their economic background, whether they are gifted or challenged, English speaking or learning English. Companion Reading for the classroom is a K- 3 reading program that will bring your students to, or far above the national reading average.
ESL
Our new Basic Reading for Teenagers and Adults ESL Edition is now in use! The first groups of users are having fantastic results. Check out the work Susan Udall, a former Companion Reading teacher, is doing with refugees in Arizona using this manual. Our regular Companion Reading classroom materials and Structured Tutoring manuals have proven very effective with K-3 non-English speakers as well!
Title One
Companion Reading has been used with extraordinary results with struggling students - regardless of their outside circumstances. Though the program has proven effective for all students, research has shown that struggling readers benefit more from Companion Reading than any other group.

When I taught Companion Reading for the very first time, the classrooms around me were using it and I barely used it because I was just learning about the program. Even though I’m an excellent teacher, my kids could not read as well as the kids in the other classrooms. So the next year I went ahead and used it in my classroom and I had incredibly results. I used it in the years that followed and I got the same results. My reading average this year on the standardized test they gave my students was 94.5
